This weekend in track and field, February 13-19, 2023, all eyes are on western Jamaica as the first of four regional high school championships gets underway.

Western Championships – Boys Qualifier

Herbert Morrison Technical High School in the parish of St. James, plays host to the Boys Qualifier, the first leg of the Western Championships high school regionals. As this is a Championship Event, all events are contested to give the boys a chance to advance to the finals. If organizers are sticking to the information sent to the JAAA in January, competition should have started on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

Western Championships – Girls Qualifier

The second leg of the Western Championships is at St. Elizabeth Technical High School where the girls will have their qualifying rounds. The equivalent of the boys, all events are contested with the scheduled start on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Western Championships – Finals

All qualifiers culminate on a final day of competition to be held at St. Elizabeth Technical High School. The Western Championships will be the benchmark to which other regional high school championships are judged. The entire championships including qualifiers are between February 14-18, 2023 at 2 locations in western jamaica.

S.W. Isaac-Henry Track & Field Invitational

If you’re unable to go out to the west but would still like to take in some track and field action on the weekend, head over to the National Stadium on Saturday, February 18 for the S.W. Isaac-Henry Track & Field Invitational. This is a production of St. Andrew Technical High School. The premiere events are 200m and 400m in all classes and genders, the 1500m for boys and girls, all the sprint hurdles and the 4x400m to close the day. Want more than track events? Field events are there too. Long & high in the jumps and all the throws. The excitement starts early, 8:15 am.
