The Jamaica athletics administrative association regrets the passing of Malcolm Spence on October 30, 2017.
A Jamaican Olympian track and field athlete born on January 2, 1936, Mal and his twin brother Mel (Melville Spence), who predeceased him five years ago, competed in the 400m and 800m events.

ObituaryMal competed for the British West Indies in the 1960 summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy. The team won a bronze medal in 3.04.0. And the members were James Wedderburn from Barbados, Keith Gardner, George Kerr and mal Spence from Jamaica

In 1962 at the Central American and Caribbean Games, held in Kingston Jamaica, mal competed in the 400m event and won a bronze medal. At that same Games, the Jamaican team comprising George Kerr, Laurie Kahn, Melville Spence and Malcolm Spence struck a gold medal.

In 1964 mal Spence was a part of the Olympic team which was held in Tokyo, Japan. This was Jamaica’s first Olympic Games as an independent nation.

He is survived by his wife Kaye and four children.
