Objectives – Promote, Develop & Regulate

The objects for which this Association is established are to promote and encourage the advancement of amateur athletics, to support the culture of advancement in sport in Jamaica by promoting athletics, and to promote such other charitable purposes which the committee regards as advantageous to sport, culture and good citizenship in Jamaica.

To achieve its objectives, the JAAA frequently sanctions or approves meetings (Track & Field Meets) to allow athletes the opportunity to hone their skills and achieve qualifying performances for upcoming local and global Championships.

The JAAA started the All-Comers series of meetings to provide seniors with the competition before going or as a substitute to competition overseas. The All-Comers meets, with seniors being the primary focus, is not limited to just seniors. Many juniors compete at the All-Comers meets and achieve qualifying performances for upcoming Global Games or Championships.

The JAAA has worked side by side with the high school athletics body to stage competitions focussed on junior athletes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the JAAA petitioned and got approval to stage meets for juniors. Working closely with the Coaches Association JATAFCA, the High School Sporting Authority, ISSA, the JAAA developed a model that will serve as a blueprint for hosting meetings in a pandemic.

The JAAA’s unwavering support for the advancement and promotion of athletics in Jamaica is evident by the meets staged throughout the year and the results of our juniors at local & international competitions.

The JAAA also works closely with the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport (MCGES) to help regulate each staging of local competition and help promote athletics both locally and internationally.
