Jamaica stepped up their medal chase at the World Championships on day three, taking gold and silver to take the tally to three, two gold and silver. The great Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was in scintillating shape as she spread-eagled a good field to win the 100 metres in 10.71, her fourth 100 metres World Title.
Shelly FlagEarlier, a quartet of Nathon Allen, Roneisha McGregor, Tiffany James and Javon Francis ran tough to take silver in the mixed relay in a national record 3:11.78. The race was won by the United States in a world record of 3:09.34, Qatar were third.
The highly anticipated women’s 100 metres final proved a classic as Fraser-Pryce flew from the blocks and was never headed. Dina Asher-Smith of England was second in a national record 10.83 with Marie Jose Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast third in 10.91. Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson was fourth in 10.93 and Jonielle Smith sixth in 11.06.
