Jamaica finished third on the medal table at the 2019 IAAF World Championships with 12 medals, eight more than they won two years ago in London.

Three medals were mined today: silver to the men’s mile relay, bronze to the women’s mile relay and bronze to Danielle Williams in the 100m hurdles.

The men’s relay quartet of Akeem Bloomfield, Nathon Allen, Terry Thomas and Demish Gaye finished second in 2:57.90 behind the United States who won with 2:56.69. Belgium finished third with 2:58.78.

The women’s foursome of Anastasia Le-Roy, Tiffany James, Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Shericka Williams was in the second spot with 100 meters to go but were passed by Poland near the finish line. The Jamaicans ran 3:22.37 with the Americans winning in 3:18.92.

Earlier in the day, favourite Danielle Williams picked up bronze in the 100m hurdles in 12.47. The event was won by the USA’s Nia Ali in 12.34 with another American, Kendra Harrison, second in 12.46.

Only the United States with 29 medals (14 Gold, 11 Silver & 4 Bronze) won more medals than Jamaica but Jamaica finished behind Kenya (11) who won more gold medals (5). Jamaica won three gold, five silver and four bronze.
