1. Date
Traditionally, the Jamaica National Senior & Junior Championship (aka The Trials) is held during the last weekend in June, this year is no exception. Details for the Championship are as follows;
- Date: June 23, 2022 – June 26, 2022 (Thursday – Sunday)
- Registration Deadline: June 13, 2022 @ 11:59:59 pm (Monday)
2. Teams
The Championships will help to select teams for five (5) International Competitions.
- 1st Caribbean Games U23 – Guadeloupe – June 29, 2022 – July 3, 2022
- World Athletics Championships – Oregon, USA – July 15-24, 2022
- World Under 20 Championships – Cali, Columbia – August 1-6, 2022
- Commonwealth Games – Birmingham, United Kingdom – July 28 – August 8, 2022
- NACAC Senior Championships – Grand Bahama, Bahamas – August 19-21, 2022
3. Competition Overlap
Based on the published dates and schedule of events for the Commonwealth Games and the World Under 20 Championships, no athlete would be able to participate in both this year. As stated above, The World Under 20 Championships, August 1-6, 2022 overlaps with the Athletics Programme of the Commonwealth Games, which is from August 2-7, 2022.
The Commonwealth Games is made up of many different sporting disciplines and athletics is one of them. So, athletes with the intention of participating in both competitions will have to make a choice once they are selected.
4. Competition Designation
Some of the competitions have restrictions on age and membership for participation.
- The 1st Caribbean Games U23 will only admit athletes who are 22 years of age and younger. Athletes who are 22 now, but will turn 23 before the end of the year are not permitted to participate in these Games. The Caribbean Games U23 is open to federations of the Caribbean.
- World Athletics Championships has no explicit age limit but is traditionally seen as an event for seniors and, it is open to federations that are members of World Athletics, the International governing body for Athletics.
- World Under 20 Championships as the name suggest, will only admit athletes who are 19 years of age and younger. Athletes who are 19 now, but will turn 20 before the end of the year are not permitted to participate in these Championships. The World Under 20 Championships is also open to federations that are members of World Athletics.
- The Commonwealth Games has no explicit limit on age, is viewed as an event for seniors, and is open to federations that are members of the British Commonwealth.
- NACAC Senior Championships may have an age limit, is viewed as an event for seniors, and is open to federations that are members of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean regions.
5. The Covid-19 Pandemic
Similar to last year, the National Championships Organising Committee will observe all covid-19 protocols especially as it pertains to team selection and international travel. Some countries require travelers to be fully vaccinated to enter their shores. So, if an athlete intends to be considered for selection, that athlete has to be Fully Vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to or before the selected team leaves for its designated competition.
6. Entry Form Requirement
The following will be required to complete the registration for the National Juniors & Senior Championships;

- Upload Photo (passport format preferred)
- Athlete’s email address The same email address cannot be used twice (World Athletics requirement) Not the Coach’s email address.
- Athlete’s contact number (World Athletics requirement) Not the Coach’s phone number.

- Height, Weight, Blood Type
- Disclosure of any Ailments, Injuries, or Medical Conditions
- Covid-19 Vaccination Status
- Upload of Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate (image or pdf)
- Event Season’s Best
- Season’s Best Date
- Season’s Best Place
- Nearest Internatioanl Ariport
- Jamaican Passport information (Passport number, issue date, expiration date)
- Upload of Passport Bio Page (image of pdf)
- Issue & Expiration Dates for all Visas and Travel Permits you currently hold
7. Event Entry Standards
There are entry standards to participate in the National Championships. Please note: Each entry is subject to review by the Competitions Committee and may be rejected if the event entry standards are not met. It is important that each athlete use his/her personal contact information (email address, phone number, etc) while you complete the entry form as communication will be made to the information provided.

8. Entry Fee
Athletes pay a nominal fee for entry as follows: Payment due when on pickup of the competition package, at the JAAA Office or the Stadium East after the competition starts.
