Jamaica added another gold to its tally of medals on Friday when the highly consistent Shanieka Ricketts used her first attempt, a championships record of 14.94m, to win the women’s triple jump final. Defending champion Kimberly Williams finished 4th with 14.19m, while Ackelia Smith finished 6th with 13.77m.
In another final, O’Dayne Richards was not at his best and only managed 19.90m in the final of the shot put to finish 6th.
After taking the 100m title, Elaine Thompson-Herah is working hard to complete the sprint double. She posted an easy 22.63 to win her semifinal, while Natalliah Whyte did 23.09 to also get into the final. Jamaica’s lone representative in the men’s 200m, Kadrian Goldson, ran a modest 21.13 and failed to advance to the final.
Megan Tapper with 12.68 and Danielle Williams (12.80) advanced to the final of the 100mh, while both Anthony Cox (45.98) and Nathon Allen (45.99) qualified for the final of the 400m for men.
In other events, Ackelia Smith (6.35m) qualified for the women’s long jump final while Junelle Bromfield advanced to the final of the women’s 400m with the 8th fastest time of 52.18. Jamaica qualified for the final of the men’s 4x400m relay with 3:05.20.
