Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas put down a good early season marker when she won the 100m at Velocity Fest 12, held at the National Stadium on March 25. The MVP athlete looked smooth in her execution while posting 11.02. Jodean Williams was second with 11.27, with Remona Burchell 3rd with 11.30.
The men’s 100m was won by Brendon Rodney of Canada with a respectable 10.17, with Jehlani Gordon second on 10.22 and Sachin Dennis third on 10.23.
Superstar Shericka Jackson continues to improve week over week as she posted an improved 50.92 (MR) over 400m with Stacey Ann Williams 2nd with 51.59.
Intermediate Hurdler Roshawn Clarke ran a personal best of 45.85 to take the 400m with Assinie Wilson second with 45.95.
The men’s 200m was won by 400m national record holder, Rusheen McDonald, who looked rejuvenated posting 20.67, easing at the line. Antonio Watson was second with 20.73 and Nigel Ellis third with 20.89. 2011 100m World champion, Yohan Blake, bravely fought a -2.3mps wind to manage 21.66 in his section of the event.
Barbadian Sada Williams won the 200m for women, posting 22.98, with Natasha Morrison 2nd with 23.24 and Tina Clayton 3rd with 23.69.
The injury-prone Tyler Mason ran healthy to win the 110m hurdles in 13.68
In the field, top triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts struggled with the changing wind but managed a modest 13.57m to take her even.
The men’s high jump was won by Lushane Wilson who scaled 2.25 with Raymond Richards second with 2.20m. O’Dayne Richards took the shot put with 19.11m.
In the women’s discus throw, Samantha Hall threw 56.98m to top Shadae Lawrence who threw 55.29m.
Fedrick Dacres won the men’s event with 64.29m, with Travis Smikle second with 63.77m and Kai Chang 3rd with 60.69m.
Elvis Graham threw a meet record 74.53m to win the javelin with Orlando Thompson 2nd with 68.97m.
