The sporting world mourns the passing of esteemed sports writer and historian, Hubert “Hubie” Lawrence. He was found unresponsive by a neighbour late Friday night and pronounced dead at the scene. Reports indicate he passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 63.
Hubert, born in 1960, was a pillar of the track and field community. He was a familiar face at meets, most recently seen at the Central Athletics Championships on February 21st.
A proud St. Jago High School alumnus, he never lost his connection to his roots. He cherished his Monk Street tenor and embraced his heritage.
Beyond his passion for sports, he was known for his meticulous research and sharp memory. He could recall details others easily forgot, ensuring the accuracy and depth of his articles. His experience and knowledge made him an astute journalist, respected by all.
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) expresses deep sadness and extends condolences to Lawrence’s family and friends.
