Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is reminding athletes that entries for the CARIFTA Trials closed this past Sunday, February 16th at 8:00 pm. The trials, which will select the team to represent Jamaica at the 52nd CARIFTA Games in Port of Spain, Trinidad, are scheduled for February 28th – March 2nd in Kingston.
Athletes were able to access the entry form on the JAAA website: https://athleticsja.org/.
A key update for this year’s trials is the addition of the Octathlon for U17 Boys to the CARIFTA Games event, scheduled by NACAC. Consequently, the Octathlon for U17 Boys will be contested at the CARIFTA Trials. Athletes interested in this event were instructed to select the Octathlon on the entry portal.
The U20 Boys will compete in the Decathlon at the CARIFTA Games. The JAAA selection criteria for the Decathlon and the Girls U20 Heptathlon remain unchanged from previous years: the top-placed Jamaican athlete from the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys & Girls Champs results, provided they meet the age requirement, will be selected. To be eligible for selection in the U20 Decathlon or Heptathlon, athletes must have entered and participated in at least one event at the JAAA CARIFTA Trials.
The Order of Events for the trials is available for download from the JAAA website: https://athleticsja.org/all-downloads/.
A Technical Meeting for Coaches is scheduled on Zoom on Thursday, February 27th at 8:00 pm.
The Meeting ID is 814 3429 2339, and the Passcode is 091964.
