JAMAICA ATHLETICS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES SRY GENE TESTING REQUIREMENTS FOR 2025 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
KINGSTON, JAMAICA – August 12, 2025 – The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) today announced new SRY gene testing requirements for all eligible female athletes competing in World Ranking competitions, including the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
In compliance with international regulations aimed at preserving the integrity of female competition, only athletes who test negative for the SRY gene (indicating the absence of the Y chromosome) will be eligible to compete in the female category. All athletes must complete this process promptly to ensure compliance with competition requirements.
Testing Information and Requirements
- Deadline: All test results must be submitted by Monday, September 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
- For Jamaica-based Athletes: Testing can be completed at the Caribbean Genetics Clinic, located on the 4th Floor of the Teaching & Research Complex, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Kingston 7.
- Clinic Hours: The clinic is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Requirements: Athletes must bring a passport-size photograph and a valid form of identification (driver’s license, passport, or voter’s ID).
- For Overseas-based Athletes: Athletes residing overseas should arrange for testing at a reputable clinic in their area to ensure timely completion and submission of results.
