Jamaica’s experience was bitter-sweet in Cali on day four. There were great performances by many but others would be disappointed with their outcome.
The 400m finals proved anticlimactic, as Jamaica’s participants struggled.
Dejanea Oakley, drawn in lane 8 in the women’s final, fought hard but ran blindly to finish 5th in 52.31.
In the men’s event, Delano Kennedy false started and Shemar Uter, out in lane 8, pushed hard but ran out of steam to finish 6th in 46.36.
In the other final involving a Jamaican, Brian Levell was 6th in the 200m in 20.72.
In preliminary events, Javaughn Blake posted the eighth fastest time of 1:48.97 in the 800m and is through to the final.
Jayden Hibbert, who won silver in the triple jump last year in Kenya, registered the longest distance of 16.37m and will be the favourite to win. However, he limped slightly after jumping.
Briana Lyston with the fastest time of 22.83 and Alana Reid at 23.16 are through to the final of the 200m for women.
Roshawn Clarke looked in immaculate condition in the 400mh as he posted the fastest time overall in the semifinal, a personal best of 49.35.
Alexis James with a 13.04 PB and Kerrica Hill 13.30 were the top qualifiers after the heats of the 100mh for women. Both won their heats comfortably.
Finally, the quartet of Serena Cole, Tina Clayton, Alexis James and Tia Clayton ran away from the opposition and posted a time of 43.28 to qualify for the final of the women’s 4x100m relay. The men’s team also qualified for their final with 39.24.
