Jamaicans Kiara Grant and Staceyann Williams demonstrated good form on the track to win their events at the Tom Jones Memorial track and field meet in Florida on the weekend. Williams produced an excellent final 100m to post 50.12, one of the fastest times in the world this year. Junelle Bromfield finished 4th with 51.85, with Leah Anderson 5th overall with 52.13, Andrenette Knight 6th with 52.15 and Natoya Goule 52.82 in 8th. Grant, now running unattached, took the 100m in a personal best of 10.99, to lay a solid foundation for the long summer ahead. In the college event, Kevona Davis posted 10.93 for fourth in her heat with an aiding wind of 2.4m/s. In another heat, Ackera Nugent ran 11.12 with a 0.8m/s wind. In the field, Danielle Thomas-Dodd was a winner in the shot put with 19.52m, while Marie Forbes, now at Clemson University, threw 55.93m for 3rd in the invitational discus event. In the men’s equivalent, Sachin Dennis was 5th over with a personal best of 10.11, with another Jamaican Nigel Ellis 9th overall with 10.23. American Noah Lyles won the event with 9.95. Commonwealth champion in the 110m hurdles, Rasheed Broadbell, was unfortunate not to finish the final of the event after posting a respectable 13.12 in the heats. The final was won by World Champion, Grant Holloway (USA) with 13.05. Sprint hurdles world champion in 2015, Danielle Williams, was the top performing Jamaican in the event, posting 12.74 for 4th, with youngsters Kerrica Hill 5th in 12.87 and Crystal Morrison 6th in 12.87. The winner was American Nia Ali in 12.53. Akeem Bloomfield ran 45.52 for 7th overall in the 400m with Javon Francis 9th in 46.22 and Jaheel Hyde 10th in 46.35. The race was won by Jereem Richards (TTO) in 44.68. Wayne Lawrence Jr ran 45.79 for 9th in the college event.
