The inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI) concluded last night, leaving a scorching mark on the Kingston National Stadium and the hearts of track and field fans. As a World Athletics Silver Continental Tour event, the JAI lived up to its promise, delivering a night of electrifying performances by world-class athletes.

Highlights included a thrilling rematch in the men’s 400m. Jamaica’s reigning world champion, Antonio Watson, came up short against Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain who won the event in 44.69 seconds. The women’s 400m hurdles saw a masterclass by Jamaica Rushell Clayton, reminding everyone why she’s a medalist from Budapest 23. Jamaican-coached Nigerian 100m hurdler Tobi Amusan prevailed in a clencher against Jamaican Danielle Williams. A World Lead for Amusan, 12.40 and Williams pleased in second with 12.46, her fastest season opener yet. Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith and Dina Asher-Smith delivered strong Jamaican debut performances in the 100 and 200 respectively.
