Port of Spain, Trinidad, April 21, 2025 – Jamaican athletes have delivered a series of impressive performances over the first two days of the 52nd Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago, positioning the nation for a strong finish as the competition concludes today.

Leading the charge, Jamaica’s U20 Female athletes have been particularly outstanding, securing 5 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals so far. Notable gold medal performances include Shanoya Douglas in the 100m, Cindy Rose in the 1500m, and Marla-Kay Lampart in the Shot Put with a record-breaking throw of 17.44m. In the U20 High Jump, Danielle Noble‘s clearance of 1.80m earned her the gold medal, while Shaquanna Williams also cleared 1.80m to secure the silver medal. The U20 Female 4x100m relay team also triumphed, clocking in at 43.65 seconds.

The U17 Female contingent has also contributed significantly to Jamaica’s medal tally, earning 2 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals. High jumper Sackoya Palmer claimed a gold medal, clearing 1.71m. The U17 Female 4x100m relay team also secured a gold with a time of 44.86 seconds.

On the male side, the U20 athletes have accumulated 6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Jamal Stephenson won the highly anticipated 100m sprint in 10.24 seconds. Other gold medals in this age group came from Robert Miller in the 400m Hurdles, Michael-Andre Edwards in the Long Jump, and Chavez Penn in the High Jump. The U20 Male 4x100m relay team also finished first in 39.56 seconds.

The U17 Male athletes have added 4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals to Jamaica’s total. Michael Graham won gold in the 100m with a time of 10.53 seconds. Selethel Johnson was victorious in the High Jump, clearing 2.03m, and Amani Phillips won the Triple Jump with a mark of 15.58m.

In the multi-events, Jaquan Souden finished fourth in the Decathlon with 6151 points, while Kevaun Grant placed fifth in the Octathlon with 4100 points. Calah McDonald is competing in the Heptathlon.

Overall, Jamaica has amassed a total of 43 medals after two days, demonstrating its continued regional dominance in track and field. With the final day of competition underway, the Jamaican team will be looking to add to their medal haul and finish the 52nd Carifta Games on a high note.
