Kingston, Jamaica – The JAAA notes the introduction of the SRY gene test for athletes wishing to compete in the female category. This test detects the presence of the Y chromosome in individuals. Only individuals who are found to be negative can participate in the female category. This test aims to ensure that only biological females can compete in the female category. The test forms part of new regulations concerning eligibility conditions to compete in the female category for world ranking competition.

This test is a once in a lifetime test and can be done by a simple cheek swab or blood test.

We will be taking steps to inform all our athletes of these new changes and will be putting in place mechanisms to ensure that our athletes are compliant by the cut-off date which coincides with the final entry date for the world championships in Japan
