Sanjay’s first Jamaican senior team was at the age of 18 at the 1999 World Indoor Championships in Maebashi, Japan. He won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics in the 4 x 400 meters relay, running as a reserve in the semi-finals, which at the time was the highlight of his career. His main ambition is to one day lift the 400 meters individual title at the 0lympics.
Sanjay started his athletics career at 200 meters but switched to the longer distance as his high school coach was predominantly known for coaching quarter milers.
His role models in athletics are his training partners Sanya Richards and Jeremy Wariner and Michael Johnson, and his home track in Kingston is his favorite site for competition. His favorite other sport is football and Jamaican international Ricardo ‘’Bibi’’ Gardner is his favorite player along with the Brazilian magician, Ronaldo.
Sanjay spends his spare time shopping and collecting foreign coins and listening to reggae and rap music, his favorite artists being Spragga Benz. His favorite movie is Paid in Full. After his track and field days are over, Sanjay wants to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Sanjay attended Excelsior High School and Calabar High School in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology. He currently lives and trains in Miami, Florida.
