Objectives – Promote, Develop & Regulate
The objects for which this Association is established are to promote and encourage the advancement of amateur athletics, to support the culture of advancement in sport in Jamaica by promoting athletics, and to promote such other charitable purposes which the committee regards as advantageous to sport, culture and good citizenship in Jamaica.
The Jamaica Athletics Association (JAAA) is committed to fostering athletic excellence in Jamaica. To achieve this goal, the JAAA frequently sanctions or approves track and field meets, providing athletes with opportunities to refine their skills and qualify for local and international championships.
The JAAA’s All-Comers series of meets was established to offer senior athletes competitive experience prior to or in lieu of overseas competitions. While primarily focused on seniors, these meets also welcome junior athletes, many of whom have achieved qualifying performances for global games and championships.
In collaboration with the high school athletics body, the JAAA has organized numerous competitions specifically designed for junior athletes. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the JAAA successfully petitioned for approval to stage junior meets. Working closely with the Jamaica Track and Field Coaches Association (JATAFCA), the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), and the JAAA developed a model for conducting safe and effective competitions during the pandemic.
The JAAA’s unwavering support for athletics in Jamaica is evident in its year-round meet schedule and the outstanding performances of Jamaican athletes at both local and international competitions. The JAAA also maintains a strong partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport (MCGES), ensuring the regulation and promotion of athletics on both domestic and international stages.
Only meets approved or sanctioned by the JAAA will count towards qualifying performances for athletes for local and international competitions.
