Marie Tavares

Mrs Tavares is a graduate of Briarcliff College in New York and trained in Spanish at the University of the Americas, Mexico. TShe is an International Travel Consultant ( ITC ), registered by IATA/UFTAA in Geneva, Switzerland and has also benefitted from specialized training from the IAAF CEO course in 2000.

She has been serving on the JAAA Executive as Assistant Secretary since 2004. Her principal responsibilities include liaison with the IAAF and other international Associations, Communication with athletes, arranging team travel and charters to International Competitions and athlete’s welfare.

However, her involvement in Track and Field commenced in 1990 as a member of the Organizing Committees of the Carifta Games and the Pan Am Games in 1991. Mrs Tavares was a member of the management teams to the World Junior Championships in Lisbon Portugal in 1994, The IAAF World Championships in Sweden in 1995, in Seville, Spain, 1999, Edmonton, Canada, 2001 Paris in 2003, and Doha in 2019. She has also managed the teams to the Bahamas World Relays. In addition, she has served as female manager of Jamaica’s team to the Olympics in Sydney 2000, Athens, Greece 2004 and Beijing, China in 2008.
