Eugene, USA – August 7, 2026

Michael-Andre Edwards became Jamaica’s second junior to jump over 17.00m (Jayden Hibbert) when he posted 17.08m to win the triple jump at the World U-20 championships in Eugene. The lead changed hands on more than one occasions with American Miles Nesbeth (who finished second with 16.79m) but Edwards would not be denied. He posted the massive distance, a personal best, on his final attempt.

Jamaica now has three medals: one gold and two silver.

Women’s 800m:
Kevongaye Fowler led for the first lap but could not match the pace in the last 100m and finished 7th in 2:08.11 in the heats.

Women’s 100mH:
Tiana Marshall ran a clean and impressive race to win semifinal one with 13.02, which equals the fastest time in the round. Her compatriot Akeelah Bell did 13.52 for 5th and did not advance.

Women’s 200m:
Sashana Johnson qualified for the final with 2nd in semifinal one with 22.92.
Shanoya Douglas was pushed to go a little faster in her semifinal, and she responded well to win with 22.53 for a place in the final.

Men’s 200m:
Gary Card had to run hard to ensure advancement to the final. He posted 20.64 for 3rd in semifinal one.
Nathaniel Martin ran 21.13 for 7th in semifinal three and did not advance
