Eugene, USA – August 9, 2026.

Jamaica experienced a spectacular final day at the World U20 championships, garnering another three medals to take the total to eight overall: two gold, three silver and three bronze.

Pride of place went to the women who struck gold in the 4x100m relay, making it four wins in a row for Jamaica at these championships. The quartet of Sashana Johnson, Theianna -Lee Terrelonge, Natrece East and Shanoya Douglas were exceptional. They executed the changes beautifully and Douglas put the icing on the cake with a fantastic finish to secure gold in 42.89.

The men also gave a good account of themselves by grabbing a bronze in their sprint relay final. The quartet of Kyle Bodden, Gary Card, Nyrone Wade and Sanjay Seymore executed great sprinting and passing and were justly rewarded. They were able to run 39.01, outclassed by the winning Americans who set a new world junior championships record.

The third medal came field in the form of Joseph Salmon who performed creditably in the high-class company to secure a bronze medal. He threw 64.37m. Countryman Kimari Kennedy finished fourth with a personal best of 64.18m.

Men’s 400mH:
Jahvanie Tyrell was 8th with 53.23.

Women’s 400mH:
Shevaughn Thomas started but did not finish the final.
